Summit Metro Parks Rangers have been participating in a partnership with the Boy Scouts of America’s Law Enforcement Exploring program. The program is open to young men and women between 6th grade and 20 years old who are interested in a career in law enforcement or a related field in the criminal justice system. The program offers young adults a personal awareness of the criminal justice system through training, practical experiences, activities, and service projects. Additionally, the program promotes personal growth through character development and respect for the rule of law.
The SMP Ranger department creates and presents all the training content to the participants and leads service projects for the park district with the participants. The program usually runs from April through December and is hosted at various park facilities throughout the park district. The SMP Foundation supported the Exploring program by subsidizing program costs so that the program is free for participants.
