Nimisila Campground has had several improvements, and gained popularity, since the park district took over management in 2017 (previously managed by ODNR). Camping is particularly popular during the migration of the renowned purple martins. Although some campsites already feature electrical hookups, the system was aged and unreliable and the few sites with electric were in high demand. The total number of campsites with electricity will increase from six to eighteen, and the bathrooms will now have lighting.
In October 2024, contractors commenced work on the campsites and bathrooms. The project is expected to be completed in time for the summer camping season.
